  • They can handle slurries with a huge amount of suspended solids.
  • They require less structural assistance than ball valves.

Disadvantages

Despite their many advantages, butterfly valves also have some disadvantages.

  • As compared to ball valves or other types of valves, butterfly valves have poor sealing performance.
  • The ability to handle slurries is limited.
  • In throttling applications, butterfly valves function well only in low-pressure drop systems.

Applications

Butterfly valves have many applications. They are used in slurry and corrosive services, cooling and heating water applications, and high-temperature steam and water services. For example- they can also be used in systems in seawater which have a floating boat dock for sale.
